Interview With Clown From Croatia!

Interview With Clown From Croatia!

Clown took some time to talk to Monitor.hr in Croatia before the band's historic first performance in Croatia. He talked about their current tour, Slipknot and many more interesting things.

Here’s a little part of it…

Monitor.hr: Looking back in the last ten years with Slipknot, if you had the chance would you change anything?

Shawn Crahan: I probably wouldn't have done it (laughs). I'm the oldest in the band, I have four kids and a wife and I missed all those years. I definately wouldn't change anything because that would have affected where we are now, we are exactly where we want to be. We wanted it to be hard because then we know we're working. We worked hard and we've never given up, It's all original members, all original concept with the same show and intensity.

Slipknot: New video interview with Shawn Crahan!

Slipknot: New video interview with Shawn Crahan!

WatchMojo.com recently conducted an interview with Slipknot percussionist Shawn "The Clown" Crahan. Watch the four-minute chat below.

Crahan rejoined Slipknot on stage on May 8 at Oklahoma City's Zoo Amphitheatre after taking several days off following the death of his mother.

Speaking to Kerrang! magazine last June, Crahan revealed that he lost his father in 2005 following the release of 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" and during the recording process for last year's "All Hope Is Gone", his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, an incurable, degenerative form of dementia.

"It was the best recording cycle of my career on one hand, and on the other it was absolutely the worst," he said. "My mom has Alzheimer's. I pray for her to pass so she's not in this constant delirium. There's really no quality of life there. I'm my mom's guardian and it's very confusing for her and it's very, very hard."

Slipknot: Clown produces Dirtfedd debut!

Slipknot: Clown produces Dirtfedd debut!

E1 Music (formerly Koch Records) has set a June 2 release date for the debut album from the Lincoln, Nebraska heavy metal band Dirtfedd, entitled "The American Nightmare". The CD was produced by Slipknot percussionist M. Shawn Crahan (Clown), who describes Dirtfedd's music as "right here right now". He adds, "They are from the Midwest, which gives them a big advantage in how to shape their own vision, rather than get caught up in clichéd scenes… I personally cannot wait until we give this art to the world. It's time things change”.

"The American Nightmare" includes the tracks "Body Bag", "No One Gets Left Behind" and the live show favorite and radio single "Salute". Revolver magazine says "the group alternates between galloping metalcore and groovy shake-your-fanny rawk, but what really sets the band apart is their tasteful use of melody".

Dirtfedd just began a U.S. tour with metal juggernauts Slipknot and Korn in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 8 and will stay on the road throughout the summer.

Slipknot: New interview with Clown!

Slipknot: New interview with Clown!

Clown did a quick interview with MLive.com to preview the band's show in Grand Rapids.

Here’s some part of the interview with Clown. Check out what he had to say…

"If you're a Slipknot fan, you're a Slipknot fan. They're all pretty amped up and ready for what we have to provide. It's like they've been waiting, and it's a necessity, it's a need, for what we have to offer," Crahan said.

"You tell someone all hope is gone, and it really makes a person stop for a moment and have to figure that out," he said. "It works so great, because it's almost like taking someone's wind away. They don't want to accept that there's no more hope, because we've all been bred and programmed that there's always hope."

"With art, you have to scare it up. You have to be able to get people to -- after they see the vision -- turn it off and walk around with it in their heads, almost angry or distraught. Then you know the art's working."

Slipknot: “Sulfur” video available + vinyl out for “All Hope is Gone” and Clown’s working on DVD !

Slipknot: “Sulfur” video available + vinyl out for “All Hope is Gone” and Clown’s working on DVD !

The clip was shot on March 9 in the Los Angeles area and was directed by band percussionist Shawn Crahan (a.k.a. Clown) and P.R. Brown, who helmed the last two Slipknot clips, "Psychosocial" and "Dead Memories".

The video depicts the nine members rocking out in groups of three and submerged in water one at a time. The video concept was modeled after a video installation by Bill Viola called "Ascension" that's currently on display at the Des Moines Arts Center.

Check it out now from Warner and Roadrunner Records!

Also, To coincide with Record Store Day - a worldwide celebration of independent retail – “All Hope Is Gone” will be released on vinyl.

Slipknot will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of their debut, self-titled, album being unleashed on the world on June 29.

While the exact details of what the Iowa Nonet will be doing to celebrate remain a closely guarded secret, Slipknot percussionist Shawn 'The Clown' Crahan reportedly spent last week editing content for a very special DVD.

"Working on the special ten year package for Slipknot today," he blogged on his
Twitter profile. "I have been editing a DVD together. Wait until you see this stuff!"

Slipknot: Clown to guest on KCAL’s’Moshpit!

Slipknot: Clown to guest on KCAL’s’Moshpit!

Slipknot's Shawn "Clown" Crahan will appear as a call-in guest on the "Moshpit" show on Southern California's KCAL radio station this Saturday, February 28 between 10 p.m. and 2:00 a,m. PST.

Longtime host Mike Z. will chat with the baseball bat-wielding Clown about the band's current headlining tour, the group's Billboard chart-topping album "All Hope is Gone" and other metallic topics.

So Cal'ers can tune their dial to 96.7 FM while the rest of the world can listen to a stream at www.kcalfm.com

Slipknot's latest release, "All Hope Is Gone", has been certified gold for moving more than 500,000 copies since its arrival last August.

Slipknot percussionist Chris Fehn told KansasCity.com that he thinks his band could eventually be even bigger than soon-to-be-Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Famers Metallica.

Fehn said, "I think we're going to overtake Metallica. We're going to overtake any band that sells out soccer arenas in Europe. We're going to do it. We're the last chance as far as the world goes."

Even though the masked men from Iowa have several gold and platinum records under their belts, Fehn thinks they could reach the same peak Metallica hit with their self-titled 1991 "black" album, which sold more than 15 million copies in the U.S. alone.

Fehn said, "We haven't even made our 'black' record yet. Wait until we do that. It's over, dude."

Slipknot Percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan: 'I Have A Ph.D. In Rock And Roll'

Slipknot Percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan: 'I Have A Ph.D. In Rock And Roll'

Adam Graham of The Detroit News recently conducted an interview with Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the road again:

"One thing I've learned in this business is No. 1, I tour. That's what I do. Records are great, videos are great, interviews are great, all that stuff is great. But the biggest extension of your art is to be able to share it with the world, and I've always believed that world domination means you're willing to get out of your house in Des Moines, Iowa, and take your disease, your pain, your art as far as... Russia. Slipknot just played Russia. We've been doing this 10 years, and we'd never been to Russia. We had just under 12,000 people show. That's when the reality behind your art really comes true.”

Falling backward into metal:

"I'm not really even a metalhead. That doesn't mean I don't like it, it just means I come from a whole different scene and a whole different way of thinking. I was going to go to college. I wanted to teach art history. I wanted to paint and do photography and pottery. I'm kind of a Renaissance guy; I've got my hand in a little bit of everything. When painting isn't working, I move to photography. When photography's not working, I'm writing songs. When songs aren't working, I'm writing some poetry or some short stories."

Hands-on learner:

"The last 10 years has been nothing but an honor and a learning experience. I tell people every day who want to point their finger at us that I have a Ph.D. in rock and roll. You know what I mean? I've got 10 years under my belt of constant touring. I can tell you about the stage. I can tell you about the semis. I can tell you about per diem. I can tell you about recording. I can tell you about lyrics. I can tell you about art, photography, video, from film to HD to mini DV. The list goes on and on and on and on and on, with what we've had to fill our minds with. From winning Grammys, to winning best video, to people going crazy to our music, from lawsuits, to deaths to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. You name it."

The Aquarian weekly interview Slipknot’s Clown!

The Aquarian weekly interview Slipknot’s Clown!

The Aquarian weekly’s Cathy A. Campagna has posted an interview with Shawn Crahan of Slipknot. There is a lot of great stuff here and some excellent questions.

This is an interview Slipknot fans NEED to check out.

"Under the magnifying glass, any art form can be considered an essence, or even indelible fingerprint left behind by the soul of its creator. Upon speaking to M. Shwan Crahan or Clown of Slipknot you'll find that the percussionist completely embodies that principle. He is unpredictable, unapologetic, cerebral, raw and maintains a fervent course. Those qualities are at the core of Slipknot's fourth release, All Hope Is Gone." –Aquarian

Shawn Crahan to release new EP with Dirty Little Rabbits!

Shawn Crahan to release new EP with Dirty Little Rabbits!

Dirty Little Rabbits, the band featuring Slipknot percussionist M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan, will release a new EP, "Simon", on January 20 via The End Records. The CD was tracked at Sound Farm Studios, which is the same place Slipknot recorded its latest album, "All Hope is Gone".

"Simon" track listing:

1. Poor Poor Woman with Her Head in the Oven

2. You Say

3. Hello

4. I'm So Beautiful

5. Happy

6. Same Mistakes

"Dirty Little Rabbits is my new Slipknot," Crahan recently told HeadbangersBlog.com. "I'm playin' drums, and I'm a songwriter and this is the band I've been waiting to be in my whole life. And it's more of an alternative band than a metal band. It's everything I've ever been into. And it's a thought process, it's a mindset. And this will be the band I end my life with.

"A lot of people don't know I'm more or less an alternative person in art and music. I didn't grow up obsessed with metal. But that's most of the beauty behind Slipknot. You've got guys that are completely dedicated to the metal, and then you've got guys who never even listen to it, like me. And you come together and make this thing called Slipknot that happens to be a metal band, and that's awesome because I always believed when I got together with my brothers that they were writing music that I never heard or felt and that's why I went with it.

"And I brought the art to this music, and throughout time I developed all my musical skills and – boom — here I am with Dirty Little Rabbits and it's finally everything I've ever wanted in a band."

Dirty Little Rabbits has thus far released a three-song EP, "Breeding", which was supported by a 27-date U.S. tour with Stone Sour that took the group from Fargo, North Dakota, up to New England, and down the East Coast to the southern reaches of Florida.
