Trivium: Metal Hammer interview - “‘Why do you suck?’, that’s not a fucking good question!”

Trivium: Metal Hammer interview - “‘Why do you suck?’, that’s not a fucking good question!”

Metal Hammer interviewed Matt and Paolo from Trivium for a Spanish Inquisition and even after the interview done they kept talking…here’s some part of what they said:

Metal Hammer: Thanks guys, that was great.

Matt: “That was fun. I want more jerks. I like the hate shit, I wish there was more.”

Paolo: “We should do a thing where it’s only people who hate us can send in questions, so we can answer them. Like the dicks who write in, ‘Why do you suck?’, that’s not a fucking good question.”

Matt: “I bet anyone that says ‘why do you suck’ would suck at guitar. People can hate our music, but they can’t hate us because we’re good people who believe in being good to each other. They can’t say we suck at our instruments because we’re probably better than them, unless you’re Dragonforce, who’re better than us at guitar.”

Matt: “There was this kid back home who I helped out. He made tribute CD for a Disney cartoon. A fucking Disney cartoon. I recorded it for $10 a day, back when I had a shitty digital 8-track. After that he came to our House of Blues show in Orlando and Paolo pretended like he wasn’t in the band and this kid was mouthing off like, ‘Matt Heafy’s dad bought him a studio, that’s why they’re signed now’. And I saw this kid in our line to buy a CD and get it signed.”

Paolo: “When he saw me he was so embarrassed. All the kids in the queue were like ‘he’s in the fucking band you idiot. He kept apologising.”

Matt: “I did this kid a favour. He made a concept album on a Disney cartoon. I didn’t even laugh man. And he wanted to make up all those rumours and shit. It’s like, dude, my dad didn’t buy me a studio, I got an $250 8-track for Christmas one year.”

Metal Hammer: You’ll have to start the band’s biography with that story…

Matt [in a fake officious voice]: “Back when Matt’s dad bought him the Roadrunner contract, he made love to pornstars and drove cars through flaming buildings. And that’s why they’re millionaires right now.”

Paulo [laughing]: “They make it sound like Matt’s dad just goes up to the bar and yells, ‘hey, studios are on me!’.”

Matt [laughing]: “You know he paid off Maiden, that’s why they’re bringing us out. I think we should just make up our own rumours from now.”

Scott Ian: “Corey Taylor was in Anthrax!”

Scott Ian: “Corey Taylor was in Anthrax!”

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian reveals to Metal Hammer that Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor was 100% part of Anthrax!

Scott Ian, holding a copy of the new issue of Metal Hammer, has spoken to the Metal Hammer podcast about how Corey Taylor was genuinely going to be a part of Anthrax on his downtime from Slipknot/Stone Sour, prior to new ‘thrax vocalist Dan Nelson joining the band.

“Corey Taylor was in Anthrax!” Ian told us. “We just said “bummer, we don’t have John Bush” but it was pretty cool that we were going to have Corey Taylor on the record and for three months, it was actually happening. It was for real, it was not a joke.”

Check out the new issue of Metal Hammer…it’s kind of a Roadrunner Records issue!

They head to the city of angels, Los Angeles, to speak to metal’s biggest band, literally, Slipknot, and hang with Corey Taylor and the guys to get the inside line on the future of our favorite eight-piece.

They also speak to New England metalcore pioneers Killswitch Engage as they line up to release their brand new album, the self-titled opus, “Killswitch Engage”. Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy also celebrates the release of his latest prog-metal masterpiece, as he tells Hammer. DevilDriver have released one of the albums of the year already and Dez Fafara spills the beans on staying awesome.

Also in the mag: They give Swedish death glam quintet Deathstars a good roasting in the Spanish Inquisition, we tell the story of Trivium’s Matt Heafy and his life so far and Hammer headed – en masse – to North Wales for the first Hammerfest to see and hang out with Opeth, Sepultura, Saxon and loads more.

There are also reviews of new albums from Marilyn Manson, Alestorm, Devin Townsend, Dream Theater and many, many more…so get it now!!!

Killswitch Engage and Devildriver: Track-by-track!

Killswitch Engage and Devildriver: Track-by-track!

Metal Hammer posted an interesting article about the new Killswitch Engage and Devildriver album. Check out some of “the track-by-track” previews below…

Killswitch Enagage:

“Starting Over”

Killswitch here sound like a cross between Iron Maiden and Atreyu with a galloping almost party vibe. Howard’s voice rips up the growl over the fast-paced backing track, before the signature chorus/clean vocal hits. A stripped bass/drum break hit the mix before the tempo and layers build again. Howard’s voice is always faultless, but the pleading heartfelt energy of his clean vocals seem somehow lessened than earlier outings. The track still signals a certain forward-thinking approach to song structure, rhythm and pace – and it works.

“Light In A Darkened World”

After the mid-tempo “The Return” comes another banger, again, moving quickly to a soaring chorus. This is more straight-forward KSE territory, but the song is good and some nice guitar-work make it an anthemic juggernaught.

To read them all go at:
http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/killswitch-engage-review-track-by-track/

Devildriver:

“Back With A Vengeance”

Opening with a huge wah-lead lead guitar line, this is arguably the track where DevilDriver truly nail groove-metal like never before. “Back With A Vengeance” might even be destined to be DevilDriver’s “Redneck”. The chorus is absolutely huge and recalls vintage White Zombie, the solo rips and this is one is destined to become huge in the clubs.

“Waiting For November”

Slamming drums over the top of a swirling, crushing riff. One of the most relentless tracks on the record, double-bass drums thud like a motherfucker all of the way through the track and there’s a mammoth beat-down at the track’s climax; the kind yo’ momma warned you about.

Devildriver to perform at “Metal Hammer Golden Gods”!

Santa Barbara, California's Devildriver is the first confirmed band for this year's Metal Hammer Golden Gods ceremony, which is expected to take place in early June in London, England (exact date and venue to be announced). Devildriver will perform on the main stage of the annual awards bash, which is owned by Future's Metal Hammer magazine. The event celebrates the great and good from the international world of rock and metal as well as playing host to several of the loudest bands on the planet to an audience of frothing and frenzied kids.

Commented Devildriver frontman Dez Fafara: "To be blunt, I'm excited as HELL to be bringing Devildriver thunder to the Golden Gods awards in the U.K., and I am thankful we got asked to do it! We will be playing new stuff off the upcoming record entitled 'Pray for Villains', due out late July on Roadrunner Records, and all of us in Devildriver can't wait to play the new tunes for the first time ever at the Golden Gods! Seems like a great way to kick off the release!"
