Machine Head news!

Interview with Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel
Mia Timpano: Have you ever experienced any great pain in your life?
Phil Demmel: Yeah. Yeah, I have. This past year has been really hard for me. My father passed away a year ago. And the circumstances in which it happened … it was really hard for me and I’m still … I’ve spent the last year drunk. Quit drinking a couple of months ago to kinda deal with it. So it’s been really trying for me. I actually lost my grandfather recently, and it’s that weird thing where you go, Okay, I need to get really drunk right now.

[laughs] It was that. It happened to me while I was on tour. I was in Italy. And we were playing. And we were playing ‘Descend the Shades of Night’. It’s a song about death. His health had been declining, and I would think of him during the song, and I cried during the song sometimes when we’d play. […]

So we had gone on to play the show, and during the show I passed out on stage, during the song. I’ve had a history of black outs. So they take me out after, and we were on our way to Zurich the next day, and I just kinda felt weird on the way there. Woke up to a call from my sister. And it was a voicemail, ‘Hey, we really need you to call home.’ Called home, and she gave me the news that my dad had passed. So it was kinda shocking. I knew that it was coming, but you’re never ready. You’re never ready to hear that news.
Dave, my drummer, he kept asking me, ‘What time did it happen? What time did he die?’ And I said, ‘Man, I don’t know.’ And I did the math. So what happened was that he got out of his dialysis, sat in his car, and he took they keys and set them on dashboard. Just went to sleep. So it happened at the same time I passed out on stage. And just knowing that he touched me in that way was just … it was a blessing but, it still was hard to deal with. It’s amazing, but it’s just really hard to know that.
Machine Head live!
Machine Head's live video for 'Death Church' can now be seen right here! This live performance is part of the band's 'The Blackening Limited Tour Edition' bonus live DVD that is available now!

Killswitch Engage tour dates confirmed!

Killswitch Engage Confirmed For Disturbed's 'Music As A Weapon' Tour!

According to a posting on the web site of the booking agency The Agency Group, Massachusetts metallers Killswitch Engage will take part in Disturbed's fourth Music As A Weapon tour, which is expected to get underway sometime in March. Dates, cities and additional supporting acts have yet to be unveiled.

Killswitch Engage bassist Mike D'Antonio told MTV's Metal File in August that the New England-based band would enter the studio in October to begin work on its next album, with plans to release the disc in early 2009. D'Antonio remarked, "When we start on this next one, we'll just bring our demos to practice, and we'll listen to them, judge them and start rearranging the parts that need to be rearranged — or we just start jamming on what sounds cool." The bassist added that most of the material he's written so far for the project sounds "fast."

Chris Fehn kicks 50 asses IN 4 hours!

On the 15th of October, Slipknot's Chris Fehn took part in an Xbox Live Game with Fame session from Osaka, Japan. Normally these things last two hours or so with fans signing up, 20 max at a time, to play one artist.
Well, Chris put his own spin on this and it easily became the most popular session to date. First, Chris extended the time frame to over four hours. And, well, he didn't want to play without his best buds, so with a little help from the KAOS studio this game was set up so Chris could play along with his regular clan of online gamers (including his best friend in Iowa). Chris' team was able to take on 50 people at a time. They blasted away at Frontlines: Fule of War throughout the morning and the afternoon, getting several hundred voice messages through the service and an astounding number of text messages. Because of this success, even more Game with Fame/Slipknot sessions are being set up. Chris also loved the game, saying that the graphics were amazing, it was his favourite game, etc.

Here's the Roadrunner Records Catalogue 08/09 interview by Jim

1) Most memorable Roadrunner Album of the past?
"King Diamond? No. Merciful Fate? Nope. Can't say that ever really listened to many of those bands... aside from Arise (Sepultura)... was Arise on Fucking Roadrunner? Ok, there you go! I dont remember seeing it in a store but a buddy of mine had the record and he copied the cassette for me, and then we passed it around in the band I was in at the time and that was it! But even when I was a big metalhead, I wasn't the kind of guy that would follow records and look to see what label they were on. About as deep as I would go was to look to see where it was recorded at. The only thing I cared about was the end result which was the music you were listening to"
2) Most Memorable Albums from the present Roadrunner Catalogue?
"Not really, no... I think it's all shit (laughs...)
"3) Album looking forward to for the future?
"I'd like to see a bunch of bands disappear... I think the genre pool musically has been pissed in so thoroughly that there is nothing really artistic, or that has any kind of integrity left. Most record labels just go on a signing spree and throw a bunch of shit to the wall and see what sticks instead of seeking out really good artists. Listening to the radio, its a Fucking joke. Every other song sounds like the one before. It's Pathetic."
4) Most Memorable Slipknot Album of the past?
"My Favourite Slipknot record is probably "The Subliminal Veres" still. We came together as a band, as nine people, and we all experimented with music in a way that we haven't done previously up to, or since. Because of that we were able to create some really cerebral music along with what we would normally create anyway. So to me that album is alot closer to an experimental record which is what I like to do with music. I'm not trying to take anything away from All Hope Is Gone, but I havent had a chance to let it sink in yet. The way we recorded it was very unorthodox from the way we normally record. Maybe I'll change my mind but for now, "Subliminal Verses" is my favourite one."
5) Most Memorable Experience from making All Hope Is Gone?
"Just being able to create and write the music at the house that didn't make it to the record. Honestly. I spent 3 and a half months every day at the studio, completly immersed in creating and writing, and of course that's what I'm going to remember because that's what I did"
6) What are slipknot working on for the future?
"Were just going to tour our asses off and then we are going to figure out how to sneak out some of the music that we created, that didn't make it to the record."
