Slipknot - New interview with Paul Gray!

Slipknot - New interview with Paul Gray!

Ibanez spent some time talking to Paul Gray at NAMM this past weekend.

Here’s a part of it…

Ibanez: What originally inspired you to start playing music?

Paul: I've been a music fan as far back as I can remember. I think the band that actually made me pick up an instrument was Slayer. I saw them on the Hell Awaits tour, and I knew I wanted to do that. So I got a guitar. My first guitar ended up getting traded for meth, not by me but by some friends of mine [laughs]. There were other influences, but that show really was what started it all for me.
Ibanez: I know that you write a lot of the music in Slipknot. How does that process usually work for you?

Paul: I write a lot of stuff at home during the time off. I'll have a bunch of riffs, full songs, and partial pieces put together. When it's getting close to time to record, Joey and I will meet and put some basic songs together just to get something started. Everybody can come in and put their input in on all the ideas, too. We write on the spot, too. Somebody might just be noodling around, and we'll start putting something together based off of that idea. There's no real set way of doing it.

Trivium – Matt Heafy interview!

Trivium – Matt Heafy interview!

In a wide-ranging discussion about the lyrics on all four Trivium studio albums, Heafy tells White Noise Metal’s “That BS Dude” Brian Shields he wants fans to know what he’s thinking about the world.

Here’s just a part of the interview:

From the band’s start with “Ember to Inferno”, Heafy says Trivium has been very clear about where it wants to go.

Every record we’ve had, the album titles have been directly reflective of what we’ve had going on as a band at that time,Heafy adds. “The idea was to go from that nothingness to something special. We didn’t know when or how or if but we knew we wanted it. It was our goal. That’s what the song was about. It was about creating that vision of ourselves and to really go for it.

In late October 2009, Massachusetts metallers Killswitch Engage embarked on their first-ever tour of South America. With stops in Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile and Colombia, the quintet played in front of hungry crowds who were eager to get a rare glimpse of the band in these countries. The trip was documented and Roadrunner Records is releasing a new short clip every Monday over a six-week period. The clips range from behind-the-scenes footage on the tour bus and backstage, interacting with fans, exploring new places, experimenting with fine dining and of course some typical Killswitch Engage shenanigans.

Megadeth Takes Top Honors In 'Metal On Metal' Listener Poll!

Megadeth Takes Top Honors In 'Metal On Metal' Listener Poll!

Megadeth's "Endgame" album took the No. 1 spot in WJCU's "Metal On Metal" annual listener Top 25 countdown show. Slayer's "World Painted Blood" and Heaven & Hell's "The Devil You Know" were close runner-ups for the second and third positions, respectively.

This was the 26th year of the poll, which has become an annual tradition in Cleveland and one of "Metal On Metal"'s most listened to programs.

I received an incredible response to this year's poll”, says “Metal On Metal” host Bill Peters. “When all was said and done, 1,195 votes were registered.

My listeners really look forward to this 'best-of' show each year and I enjoy doing it for them. It's their night to program the show.

The list they have put together is very diverse with several surprises. There are some albums on the list I do not play on the program and several of my personal favorites did not make it, but that's okay.

My listeners are very knowledgeable and passionate when it comes to their love for the music. I always rave to people around the world just how great they are and this is another reason to prove this fact true.

This list holds up to and is better than most lists I have seen. I like it because it comes from the fans, not the so-called music industry insiders who are often out of touch with what the true metal fans like. The fans are the ones buying the music and supporting the bands. Their voices need and deserve to be heard!

WJCU's "Metal On Metal" can be heard every Friday night from 6:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m. (EST) on 88.7 FM in the Cleveland, Ohio area or streamed worldwide at:

Rob Zombie Says he is “very excited” to be working on CSI: Miami!

Rob Zombie Says he is “very excited” to be working on CSI: Miami!

Filmmaker and musician Rob Zombie will bring his unique style of filmmaking to the streets of Miami on an episode of "CSI: Miami", to be broadcast Monday, March 1 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the CBS television network. The episode begins production today and is Zombie's television directorial debut.

In the episode, the CSI team discovers that a listening device has been covertly planted at a crime scene, capturing a terrifying soundtrack of the murder and, possibly, the voice of the killer. However, when it's revealed the bug was planted by the team's own Jesse Cardoza, the State's Attorney tosses the taped evidence and uncovers accusations of evidence tampering by Jesse on a murder case in Los Angeles. With the integrity of his team at stake, Horatio Caine and Eric Delko travel to Los Angeles to dig into that murder and clear Jesse's name. While in Los Angeles, Horatio find himself face to face with secrets from Jesse's past and a dangerous element within the LAPD.

"As writers, we were really pushing to create an interesting backdrop that could lend to Rob Zombie's visual style," says Marc Dube, co-executive producer. "We thought opening the episode at a macabre party, with Miami attendees all wearing stylized masks (a la 'Eyes Wide Shut') would be a fun kick-off point for Rob do to what he does best — conveying the cruel and creepy underbelly of humanity."

"I am very excited to be working on a show that has such an intense and unique visual angle on the classic crime drama formula and look forward to putting my own bizarre stamp on the world of 'CSI: Miami'," says Zombie.

Devildriver frontman interviewed by Metalholic.com, Audio Available!

On January 8, Rustyn Rose of Metalholic.com conducted an interview with vocalist Dez Fafara of Santa Barbara, California metallers Devildriver. The chat is now available for streaming in three parts below.

In a recent interview with Metal As Fuck, Fafara stated about the band's plans for its next studio album, "Record five with this band, and I've said it before, even with record five, six, seven, eight and nine, will continue to get better. Not a lot of bands can say that and not a lot of bands have done that. Most bands, by the time they've done that amount of records, they're either over it or they're not giving you the anticipation of the record release that they should. But we want to keep Devildriver fans on their feet. So every two years we're going to release a record and just continue to tour like we do, and we're booked until May 2012. Then we're going to take about six months off. That'll be the most time I've had off in about fourteen years."

Regarding how the band's last album, "Pray for Villains", was received by the fans and the press, Fafara said, "It's been really well received all over the world at this point and we appreciate all the support we've received so far."

He added, "I never have any expectations or perceptions when it comes to [our] art; I just do art for the sake of doing art. I knew that we were stretching the boundaries and growing our sound a little bit — I knew we were going to give [our fans] something with a bit of growth and they were anticipating it. We feel very strongly that we made the right move with our music. As for how it was going to be received or perceived, I'm not that kind of guy. I'm doing it for the love of music, really."

Slayer cancels tour plan…Tom Araya scheduled for back surgery!

Slayer cancels tour plan…Tom Araya scheduled for back surgery!

California thrash metal legends Slayer have been forced to cancel all of their immediate tour plans — including the American and Canadian Carnage tour dates with Megadeth and Testament that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's European headline tour scheduled for March and April.

Slayer bassist/vocalist Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a cervical radiculopathy.

The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms.

Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling tour dates; tickets already purchased for all shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people — the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans — Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

According to a recent online post by Devildriver bassist Jon Miller, the California metallers have six songs "in the bag" for the group's forthcoming album, which they "are looking to record sooner than later." He added, "We want to go faster and heavier on this one to answer any question on a 'direction' that we may be undertaking."

Devildriver drummer John Boecklin elaborated further on the status of the songwriting sessions for the band's next CD. Writing on the group's official MySpace blog, Boecklin stated, “On our last record, I would say we stretched as far as we could outside of what we had done in the past, trying new and slower songs with vocal melody like “It's In The Cards” or the rock like feel of songs like “Back With A Vengeance” and "Teach Me To Whispe”. For our latest effort, we feel like musically going for the throat, so to speak.”

“Are we gonna make a death metal album? No! We always have a heavy emphasis on groove and hook. That will not change. We just feel we have a certain anger edge about us and the songs we are writing compared to our last one. It will not be rushed and if you are a fan, you will not be let down!!”

Devildriver's latest CD, "Pray For Villains", sold around 14,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 35 on The Billboard 200 chart.
