Heavy metal a scapegoat again? Dani Filth discusses…

Cradle of Filth vocalist Dani Filth was interviewed recently by Canadian newspaper The Vancouver Sun in anticipation of the bands upcoming show there.

Discussion however turned to took a turn for the unexpected when the journalist highlighted a murder case in te region from back in 2006 where a 23 year old and his 12 year old 'girlfriend' killed the girls family, stabbing them all to death. Both apparently were avid fans of the band and made repeat references to them online. It was a case that Dani was unaware of, but commented on nontheless.

"We've got quite a lot of fans, fortunately. You can't be responsible for each and every one of them. . . . You can't tell if someone living next door to you is a powder keg waiting to blow (no matter) what music they're into. I mean, you get gang killings and shootings and rape and murder associated with hardcore rap as well, don't you?" He continues "I know that most (of our) fans are intelligent, well-to-do people. They have their day jobs. They're accountants, lawyers."

“People can find blame in anything," says Filth. "Oh, they have songs with a bit of violence and a dark side so that must be the immediate problem. . . (Heavy metal) is an easy target. . . . It's a very easy scapegoat. . . . You may as well blame testosterone.”
