Slipknot – Video interview with Corey!

Slipknot – Video interview with Corey!

Independent music record label Indie Power recently conducted an interview with Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor.

Watch the chat below.

Also available is performance footage from Slipknot's October 23, 2009 concert at the Event Center in San Jose, California.

"I think Slipknot is the best therapy I could ever have wanted in my whole life," Taylor recently told Straight.com. "It continues to allow me to really figure out things about myself. You know, get really macro and let a lot of stuff go. In a lot of ways, the insanity of Slipknot allows me to have the humanity of my real life."

Regarding why Slipknot continues to have a large and devoted fan base more than a decade since the release of the band's self-titled debut, Taylor said, "Too many bands are willing to sell their fan base out to get what they want, monetarily speaking. Too many bands are willing to destroy the foundation of their career just to have a little scratch upfront. And that's just fucking sad. To me, the great thing about having our feet in two worlds is that we never left our original fans behind. We never sold them out — we took them with us. And in doing that, we showed them respect. They were the ones that kept us here when things were dark, when nobody else gave us a chance."

Slipknot – Corey’s interview on Rock 101 Kufo!

On Tuesday, October 13, Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor took over the "Cort And Fatboy" show on Portland's Rock 101 KUFO, picking all the music played on the radio station from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Corey talked about his love of many kinds of music, his extensive comic collection, his karaoke preferences, his taste for chicken, his video game skills, his opinion on the state of rock music and his deep feelings for Dave Grohl.

Here is the list of songs Corey played on KUFO:

* "Check My Brain" – Alice in Chains
* "And We Danced" - The Hooters
* "You're In Love" - Ratt
* "Jessie's Girl" - Rick Springfield
* "Snuff" - Slipknot
* "Beat It" - Michael Jackson
* "Pennyroyal Tea" - Nirvana
* "Monkeywrench" - Foo Fighters
* "State of Love and Trust" - Pearl Jam
* "Sex on Fire" – Kings Of Leon
* "Know Your Enemy" – Green Day
* "Your Love" - The Outfield

Corey will get hitched to his fiancée Stephanie in November 2009. This will be Taylor's second marriage.

Taylor, 35, has two children: A daughter named Angie, born in 1992, and a son named Griffin, born in 2002, whom he had with his first wife, Scarlett.

Taylor divorced Scarlett — whom he married on March 11, 2004 in a small ceremony at the Botanical center in Des Moines, Iowa — in early 2007. In the November 2008 issue of Revolver magazine, he is quoted as saying, "After I got sober, I realized my relationship wasn't right for me. My wife and I had damaged each other too much."

Cradle of Filth frontman talks 'A Black Metal Bible'!

Cradle of Filth frontman talks 'A Black Metal Bible'!

Mr. Drew of the horror-centric web site BloodyGoodHorror.com recently conducted an interview with vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey of British extreme metallers Cradle of Filth about "The Gospel of Filth: A Black Metal Bible", the new book written by Dani and music journalist Gavin Baddeley.

"The Gospel of Filth: A Black Metal Bible" serves both as a chronology of the band and their influences, as well as a complete study of the occult and man's obsession with it throughout history. Each chapter is filled with parallels between the occult and themes found in horror, heavy metal, black metal, comic books, literature, and just about every other facet of popular culture. Many luminaries in each field are showcased or interviewed. I recently had the opportunity to talk to Dani concerning the book, and his career as a whole.

A couple of excerpts from BloodyGoodHorror.com's interview with Dani Filth follow below.

BloodyGoodHorror.com: How did it feel to finally finish "Gospel of Filth" so many years after its inception? Did you feel it was complete?

Dani: It was on the cusp of massive relief even up to a few days ago when it finally managed to claw its way down to the printers! One of the main problems we had to face was the fact that each chapter adopts a Cradle album as its initial springboard (so, for example, the chapter entitled "Cruelty and The Beast" concerns itself with crime and serial killer chic), so the longer the book was taking, the more chapters were being added to accommodate the next Cradle of Filth excretion. We were writing albums quicker than chapters in the book at one laborious stage! That said though, the book is a literal tome. Serving as a modern day black grimoire, it covers all areas of the dark-side and the occult and infuses this with accounts from real life practitioners, be they musicians, actors, writers, historians, serial killers or real-life vampires, the grisly facts are always expertly corroborated and then fleshed out.

BloodyGoodHorror.com: Did Gavin approach you, or did you seek him out to help assemble all the pieces?

Dani: You know it's over five years ago now, down the long, winding road of painstaking research and too much absinthe, that, if memory serves me well, Gavin and I actually met at a very fruity Black Mass in Chelsea, London.

BloodyGoodHorror.com: You have a clear fascination and understanding of the occult and all the other subjects compiled in the book. But "Gospel of Filth" also had a kind of tongue-in-cheek view of the subject matter. Is occult study a simple curiosity for you, or is it something you regard very seriously?

Dani: I used to be very serious about the occult, sitting on the other side of the fence to the one I scratch my arse on now. As I've hit my thirties and now bedecked with family, I find myself exploring everything in life a little more vividly and with so much on one's (often busy and bloodstained) hands, there just isn't the time to indulge fully in the daily labors of magic and mind-play. I see myself as more of a Van Helsing-type character now, an obsessed vampiric good guy with inside information on the dark. Possibly with a cape. Haven't decided.

BloodyGoodHorror.com: There is a panoply of impressive accounts and interviews from celebrities, musicians, horror icons, and cultural authorities from all walks of life. Dario Argento, James Hetfield, Nick Holmes, Tom Araya, and countless others. How did these people come to be involved in the project? Did you go to them, did they come to you, or both?

Dani: A bit of both. For example, we have excerpts from possibly the last ever interview with Anton La Vey, which is something that Gavin undertook a few years back naturally, and in contrast with that, the Dario Argento interview came into existence due to me having sung the credit song on his recent "Mother Of Tears" movie.

BloodyGoodHorror.com: You've mentioned in the past that horror films occasionally serve as inspiration for Cradle of Filth. What films stick out in your memory, and which are your favorites? Have you seen any recently that pique your interest?

Dani: Don't get me started! I don't really have an absolute favourite and there are just so many thousands I like. In fact that's my touring bad habit... buying DVDs, especially in the States on a day-off Best Buy and Wal-Mart run, to while away the lonely nights on the bus. Recent favorites however would have to be films like "Antichrist", "Martyrs", "District 9", "Pandorum", "Dead Snow", "Monsters Versus Aliens", "Coraline", "Dorian Gray", "Meatball Machine" and "Mum And Dad".

BloodyGoodHorror.com: You were in the horror film "Cradle of Fear" in 2001, and then were a voice actor in 2003's "Dominator", but haven't appeared since. You've said in prior interviews that you very much enjoyed acting. Have you closed the door on that part of your career, or can horror fans expect to see you again?

Dani: I was acting?!!!! We were actually due to undertake a sequel to "Cradle Of Fear", but seeing as the cast and crew all were on deferred payments until the film made money (to keep the outlaying costs low), and now that it's been done like that once it won't happen again and hefty investors have been a tad shy of late. I'd love to do something again, but it'd have to be done right. I've got some great ideas for scripts and the suchlike, however the band and subsequent career have kept me pinned to the wall for the past few years.

Soulfly’s Max Cavalera video interview in Sacramento

Soulfly’s Max Cavalera video interview in Sacramento!

Capital Chaos conducted an interview with Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, ex-Sepultura) when Soulfly performed at The Boardwalk in Orangevale, California on October 3, 2009. During the chat, which can be viewed below, Max addresses criticism from Blabbermouth.net users regarding his dreadlocks (watch around the 3:50 mark in the clip below).

As previously reported, Max can now be reached via TheLiveLine, a service launched by Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine that enables musicians to connect to their audience over the phone. Get updates on Max and leave messages for him by calling (888) 716-5450.

Regarding the songwriting process for the next Soulfly album, Max said in a recent interview, "I am working on new songs with Marc [Rizzo, guitar], a little bit. We're thinking about making the songs a little shorter, so if you can imagine maybe a little bit like Minor Threat mixed with [Slayer's] 'Reign In Blood' mixed with Soulfly, with still some world music, but much smaller, and the songs not so long — shorter. It'll be more aggressive than [last year's] 'Conquer' [album] even, because it'll be shorter — it'll be like when Slayer did 'Reign In Blood', [that] kind of thing. I don't know why some interviewers talked to me and said that they thought that the album was gonna be less aggressive, more like [2000's] 'Primitive', which I don't know where it came from, because I never said that. In fact, I just started working on the album on this tour, so it's only been a month. But this is the official news right now — it's gonna be more aggressive, faster, shorter."

Airbourne – First video update from the studio!

Australian hard rockers Airbourne are currently recording their second album for a tentative early 2010 release via Roadrunner Records.

The first in a series of video updates from the studio can be viewed below.

Regarding the CD's musical direction, drummer Ryan O'Keeffe previously stated, "I guess the best way to say would be, the first [album] was sort of left and right, and the second one's gonna take you further left and further right."

Airbourne's video for the song "Runnin' Wild" — featuring a special cameo by Motorhead mainman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister — was shot with director Nathan Cox, who has previously worked with Queens of the Stpne Age, Marilyn Manson and Linkin Park, among others. The track is the title cut of the group's debut album, which landed at No. 106 on The Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. after shifting 7,000 units in its first week of release.

Machine Head records cover of Pantera’s “Fucking Ostile”!

Guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn of San Francisco Bay Area metallers Machine Head has issued the following update:

"After two-and-a-half years of touring, we're (finally) two months into a three-month break, and let me tell you, it's been awesome!!! I've been out camping/wakeboarding a ton, Adam [Duce, bass] is taking flying lessons and just did his first brief solo flight, Dave's [McClain, drums] hanging in Alameda enjoying his new Yamaha drum kit (amazing!) and was hanging in L.A. with the Korn dudes and his longtime buddy Ross Robinson [producer and McClain's former Catalepsy bandmate, and Phil [Demmel, guitar] was most recently 'best man' at his best friend Shack's wedding. We've also found time to hop into Trident Studios with Juan Urteaga and record a Pantera tune for a b-side. We're doing 'Fucking Hostile'!!! Dave is done with drums (nailed it on the second take!), and I finished guitars yesterday and got vocals in the bag. Phil comes in tomorrow, then Adam, then it'll be mixed and mastered by the end of the week. Mike Sloat has been documenting, so we'll probably have video snippets up when the whole thing gets closer to release. We also just announced our sole U.S. headline date on November 6 in NY, so FUCKIN' A!!! Come make a road trip to N.Y. for some raging metal!!!"

Machine Head will team up with Megadeth, Slayer and Suicide Silence for the "Canadian Carnage East" tour beginning on November 8 in Moncton…yeah Montreal is November 11th (you shouldn’t miss that!!!). New interview with Corey Beaulieu!

New interview with Corey Beaulieu!

Musicianstop Magazine's Sahra Joelle conducted an interview with guitarist Corey Beaulieu of Florida metallers Trivium when the band played the Majestic Theatre in Ventura, California on October 2, 2009. Watch the eight-minute chat below.

In a recent interview with The Daily Rock, Trivium guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy stated about the songwriting process for the band's next album, "Yeah, we have some stuff — not as a whole band, but each individual guy has maybe ten to twenty songs. I have done about fifteen, but I have gotten rid of all but six because I kept the good ones as I kept going on, the newer songs I was writing were stronger and better so I got rid of the ones that weren't as good. Paolo [Gregoletto, bass] has a bunch of songs, like twenty or so, but he keeps cutting back as well. Everyone keeps writing as many as they can, but then cutting back the weak ones and not worrying about trying to make them better songs. . . We have all loose ideas right now. Musically, it is getting closer to finishing a more realized idea but lyrically and generally, with the entire record not being written and purely in the developmental stages, we are thinking of it as something that we want to be recognized by any kind of fan, whether you like metal or not, whether you speak English or not, 'cause we are definitely a band that travels internationally around. I have done a style of words that is almost hard to interpret even if you speak English, so I'm not saying we are dumbing ourselves down, but I want it to be universally translatable no matter where we are. I don't know how to make that happen, but we definitely want it to sound like Trivium but with the best possible songs. We always try to keep true to what our heart is as a band but we want to diversify, and not diversify for the sake of ourselves, but to find where we are going as a band. Nowadays, we know more of what is right for our sound. If we look across all four records, we know what kind of parts should be there for the next thing and what shouldn't be there."

Trivium has announced that they are one of the first major acts to team up with entrepreneurial Australian company Posse in the U.K. Posse is a peer-to-peer ticketing method that rewards fans for actively promoting concerts. The partnership enables fans to recommend and sell tickets for Trivium gigs in the U.K. via their personal blogs, websites, or social networking profiles. Trivium is thrilled to chart new territory by aligning with Posse for the majority of their March 2010 U.K. tour giving fans the opportunity to help make a difference as well as getting something back.
