Megadeth Takes Top Honors In 'Metal On Metal' Listener Poll!

Megadeth Takes Top Honors In 'Metal On Metal' Listener Poll!

Megadeth's "Endgame" album took the No. 1 spot in WJCU's "Metal On Metal" annual listener Top 25 countdown show. Slayer's "World Painted Blood" and Heaven & Hell's "The Devil You Know" were close runner-ups for the second and third positions, respectively.

This was the 26th year of the poll, which has become an annual tradition in Cleveland and one of "Metal On Metal"'s most listened to programs.

I received an incredible response to this year's poll”, says “Metal On Metal” host Bill Peters. “When all was said and done, 1,195 votes were registered.

My listeners really look forward to this 'best-of' show each year and I enjoy doing it for them. It's their night to program the show.

The list they have put together is very diverse with several surprises. There are some albums on the list I do not play on the program and several of my personal favorites did not make it, but that's okay.

My listeners are very knowledgeable and passionate when it comes to their love for the music. I always rave to people around the world just how great they are and this is another reason to prove this fact true.

This list holds up to and is better than most lists I have seen. I like it because it comes from the fans, not the so-called music industry insiders who are often out of touch with what the true metal fans like. The fans are the ones buying the music and supporting the bands. Their voices need and deserve to be heard!

WJCU's "Metal On Metal" can be heard every Friday night from 6:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m. (EST) on 88.7 FM in the Cleveland, Ohio area or streamed worldwide at:

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine interviewed by Harmony Central at NAMM!

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine interviewed by Harmony Central at NAMM!

Harmony Central conducted an interview with Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine at the Marshall booth at this year's NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) show, which is being held January 14-17, 2010 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

Watch the chat below.

Marshall Amplification is introducing the new Dave Mustaine special edition MG microstack guitar amplifier, dubbed the Megastack. The three-piece unit includes a 15-watt compact head with four channels, plus two matching speaker cabinets — one angled and one straight. Each cabinet is loaded with a full-range 10" Celestion speaker. Available in extremely limited quantities in the U.S., the amplifier looks like a compact version of Mustaine's legendary full sized touring rig that he uses with Megadeth.

Mustaine will be signing autographs at the Dean Guitars booth (booth 5466B)
- Friday, January 15 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Saturday, January 16 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Slayer cancels tour plan…Tom Araya scheduled for back surgery!

Slayer cancels tour plan…Tom Araya scheduled for back surgery!

California thrash metal legends Slayer have been forced to cancel all of their immediate tour plans — including the American and Canadian Carnage tour dates with Megadeth and Testament that were set to kick off on January 18, as well as the band's European headline tour scheduled for March and April.

Slayer bassist/vocalist Araya, known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing, began experiencing back problems while on the band's Australian/New Zealand/Japanese tour last October. In spite of his rapidly increasing pain and discomfort, he carried on with the tour, but immediately upon returning home saw an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed a cervical radiculopathy.

The rocker initially did not want to take the major surgery route, so the specialist recommended a series of minimally-invasive procedures. While those procedures have resulted in some improvement, Araya continues to deal with intermittent bouts of severe pain, numbness and muscle spasms.

Booking agents for both Slayer and Megadeth are already hard at work rescheduling tour dates; tickets already purchased for all shows will be honored at the rescheduled dates.

Sales added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people — the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans — Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine to begin recording his radio program next week!

Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine to begin recording his radio program next week!

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:

“It is official! On August 31st between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., I am going to be in the Clear Channel radio station down here in San Diego recording my first of 36 months' worth of my new radio program.”

“I am going to have a contest to pick the name of my show. The prize may be a guitar, it could be a pass to a show, it could be any of a number of things, but most importantly, it will be my way of thanking you for helping me christen our new show. It will also be the beginning of a new period in radio, where we are going to go back in time, back to when radio really mattered, and back when the programmers listened to music and not to people who forced us to play what they want and not what we want. I am even going to play bands like Mercyful Fate, so just let it be said. I am also going to play some bands that you may not like and you may even want to change the station about.”

“I hope that you won't leave, because I want to build a relationship with you and talk with you every month, and hopefully every week, and then, if this all goes according to plan, every day! So, get ready to make history with me, and with you!”

Megadeth's new album, "Endgame", will be in stores on September 15, and fans can get the inside scoop on the album with FMQB's Megadeth radio special, "Inside Megadeth: Endgame", airing on radio stations nationwide starting September 4.

Megadeth: new interview!!!

Megadeth: new interview!!!

PureGrainAudio.com conducted an interview with Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover.

Here’s a little part of it:

PureGrainAudio: You’ve been in Megadeth now for just about five years. How did you first meet Dave and eventually get asked to join the group?

Shawn: Well I met Dave through Glen who’s my brother, he was with Dave when he first formed the band, Glen was the first guy to get in the band, with the reformation of Megadeth. He had the gig about a month before I got the call and that’s kind of how it filtered through.Once, you know, he had Nick Menza in the band and it didn’t work out for whatever reason so Dave and Glen talked about it and said “hey what do you think about calling Sean?” So that’s kind of how it went down, this was right before the tour started, about six days before the tour started so it was a real quick thing and the next thing I know I was in a plane to Arizona to go to rehearsals. So that’s initially how I met Dave.

Dave Mustaine: The album is done!

Dave Mustaine: The album is done!

Dave Mustaine has issued the following studio update at TheLIVELine.com:

"I'm at the studio right now, Vic's Garage, and we are done! We're just right now finishing the last couple of notes on the new record, and Andy's getting ready to pack his bags and head up to Los Angeles tomorrow to get ready to fly back home on Thursday. Man, this has been a long, grueling, enduring process but it's been so worth it, and I'm so excited. I'm more excited about this record then I've been in any record since back in the 1980's. I would say, probably since, well definitely since "Rust In Peace" there's nothing that's excited me this much - maybe "Countdown", but this is just absolutely insane."

Megadeth: Update from Chris Broderick!

Megadeth: Update from Chris Broderick!

Megadeth guitarist Chris Broderick has issued the following update from the "Priest Feast" European tour, also featuring Judas Priest and Testament:

"There are only three shows left on this tour and it has been one of the best tours I have had so far."

"I was lucky enough to have some time off to see a few cities; Milan, San Sebastian, Barcelona, Lisbon, and a little of Paris. This was all due to the days off between shows and the decent weather we are having right now. When seeing this, one really gets an appreciation for the history and culture that Europe has."

"The next time I am over here, I hope to be able to see some more of Scandinavia, and other countries in the north."

"One other thing I want to comment on is all of the fans that have been to see multiple shows, Carlos and Miguel, and the French connection (whom I will see tonight hopefully), to name a few. I appreciate the support that you show us."

"Finally I want to mention that I will have a number that anyone can call on TheLiveLine web site [a service launched by Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine that enables musicians to connect to their audience over the phone] coming soon."

"Now it's back to practicing the solos for the upcoming CD."

Tentatively due on September 1 via Roadrunner Records, Megadeth's forthcoming LP will be the group's first with Chris Broderick, who replaced Glen Drover at the end of 2007.

The recording process for Megadeth's twelfth studio album began on January 7 at the band's own Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California. The CD is once again being helmed by British producer Andy "Undie" Sneap (Arch Enemy, Nevermore, Exodus, Machine Head), who worked with Megadeth on the band's last album, "United Abominations", which came out in May 2007 via Roadrunner.

Megadeth bassist checks in from Denmark!

Megadeth bassist checks in from Denmark!

Megadeth bassist James Lomenzo has issued the following update from the "Priest Feast" tour, also featuring Judas Priest and Testament:

"The 'Priest Feast' has been better then expected. There's been great back stage camaraderie between the bands and their crews, it's a great thing to be part of. Everybody's working together to make the best possible show for you all who are coming down."

"The crowds that have been attending have really got me stoked. The energy's been electric (eye). Yesterday at sound check in Gothenburg , I was called to the stage by one of our crew, ...'JLo, report to the stage...' As I walked around to the back, I passed by Chuck (two first names) Billy [Testament] who remarked, 'Did someone just call you JLo?' He seemed amused and indicated that my crew might be acting just a bit insubordinate. I shrugged and said, 'No, that's what they call me.' 'Called me it back in Brooklyn too, way before there was a big butted Latina with the same acronym.' He kind of shook his head like, 'I don't know...' So, I reminded him of the few choice items from his past that he (or was it some one else?) divulged in his dressing room the other night... I won't reveal any of it here 'cause like you, I like the big, bad-ass Chuck Billy persona just as he is now. Besides, who needs to get on his bad side?”

"Anyway, great show in Gothenburg. It was fantastic to see Mikkey Dee (Motorhead, King Diamond) and some of the King Diamond clan back stage. Most of us went out out to a local bar afterwards and had a grand time. All in all, a real 'metal' event.”

"Here in Denmark (we got in around 8 AM), we continue our quest to complete the new album. We set up in Dave's [Mustaine] room again and knocked out some guitar solos and embellishments for two of the songs. Things are taking shape at a comfortable pace and we're all really stocked with what we're coming up with.”

"So, it's gettin' to the wee hours here and there's more metal ahead of us. Looking forward to the show in Horsens, Denmark. I don't think I've ever played here before so it will be great to see my Danish friends tear it up here."

On January 7, Megadeth commenced the recording process for its twelfth studio album at the band's own Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California. The CD is once again being helmed by acclaimed British producer Andy "Undie" Sneap, who produced Megadeth's last album, "United Abominations" (May 2007, Roadrunner Records).

Megadeth: Dave Mustaine reveals another song title!

Megadeth: Dave Mustaine reveals another song title!

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update from the "Priest Feast" tour, also featuring Judas Priest and Testament:

"Today I was able to talk with Mike Gitter [A&R executive] from Roadrunner Records, who has graciously allowed me to make this [new Megadeth] record and to let me do it without some of the ridiculous things that he was ordered to tell me, and I think we are going to have a really good record.”

"Lemme see, I sent him the music for Track 2, and he said, 'This just got my dick hard,' which suggests success. I am really excited about the lyrics and the title that I have chosen for this penultimate offering to Roadrunner.”

"We are playing tonight in Dortmund, Germany, after a day of go-carting, an evening of Mongolian bar-b-que, and all around socializing with band and crew over the last two days off. I usually do this in the first week or so of every tour to let every one know what I am looking for, what I expect, what I will tolerate, and what I won't.”

"We have a first-rate tour again, and although we have already had one casualty, we have replaced and resumed the race at the pace that only Megadeth and its world-famous crew could achieve.”

"Of course, that is skipping the fact that I crashed my kart yesterday at approximately 25-30 kmh and the hard bucket seat cut up along my body to contour me shape and aerodynamically keep the kart as unaffected by the wind or 'drag,' as it is called. As the three nano-seconds expired from the first impact and my body caroming into the wall with the edge of the seat cutting into my heavy jacket, and making contact against the delicate rib area directly under my arm, about where my elbow hangs.”

"My initial grunt barely muffled the clear distinct cracking sound of my rib breaking, and the electrical signal that my body felt was excruciating, but nothing as bad as the mental anguish I have put myself through since, every time I think about getting hurt out here. I am always so careful, and if I wasn't so stinking competitive, I wouldn't feel like a used heavy bag right now.”

"We are doing great with the progress of finishing the writing of the new record out here. I have chosen a working title and I think that it is going to stick, and the record starts out with an instrumental that is very much like 'Into The Lungs Of Hell', and there are ten more songs that are really fantastic. The is one song on here that will probably touch a lot of people; 'The Hardest Part Of Letting Go'."

STV's John Kilbride conducted an interview with Dave Mustaine shortly before Megadeth took to the stage at Glasgow's SECC arena on February 16, 2009 as part of the "Priest Feast" tour with Judas Priest and Testament.

Regarding Megadeth new song "1,320", the first title to be confirmed from the band's forthcoming album, Mustaine said, "It's a song about drag racing. A quarter-mile track in America is 1,320 feet long. On our web site right now everyone is asking, 'What the hell is 1320?' It's a measure of distance from the start to the finish line."

He continued, "I like adrenaline. I used to skydive, I've been into martial arts since I was 12 and there is something about adrenaline that makes me excited. I went to drag racing event one time and they had these nitro funny cars and I was hooked."

According to Dave, the new Megadeth album will be worth the wait. "It is supposed to be released in September," he said. "I think it's a very exciting record.”

"Shawn [Drover, drums] has been a fan forever, James [Lomenzo, bass] has been with me now for several years and Chris [Broderick, guitar] is a guitar virtuoso so when they say they are excited about it, it is really saying something."
