Roadrunner Records publicist to release music industry survival guide!

Roadrunner Records publicist to release music industry survival guide!

Do the Devil’s Work for Him: How to Make it in the Music Industry (and Stay in it)— the debut book from noted music and entertainment writers, Amy Sciarretto and Rick Florino. The book is scheduled to hit retail shelves and online bookseller outlets on June 26th, 2009.

Do the Devil’s Work for Him is a “she-said, he-said” pocket guide on how to get your foot in the door of the cutthroat entertainment business, offering tips on how to intern, how to network and how to adjust to the ever-changing climate of this “eats its young” industry.

Amy Sciarretto is a 15-year veteran of the music business, having written extensively for Kerrang!, Revolver, TeenPeople.com, Spin.com, AOL, Urban Ink, Guitar World, VH1.com and ARTISTdirect.com, to name a few, and having served as Loud Rock Editor for CMJ New Music Report and Hit Parader. She worked as a DJ on Sirius/XM for two years and has also worked in the promotion and publicity departments of top independent label Roadrunner Records for 8 years.

Rick Florino founded Ruin Magazine in 2006, and he’s currently entertainment editor for LAX Magazine and an editor for ARTISTdirect.com. His writing has appeared in publications and web sites such as Inked, Revolver, BPM, Hit Parader, Shockhound.com, Citysearch.com and other outlets.

In addition to two humorous, clever and insightful author perspectives, as well as advice, anecdotes and analysis, the book also features a complete extra chapter of advice from top-tier music and entertainment business personnel and rock stars, including members of multi-platinum acts like System of A Down, Guns N’ Roses and Korn. It’s a necessary and crucial time for those looking to break into this exciting lifestyle and career field, namely college students, high schoolers and those who dream of working with and among the stars.

Carver City

Dave Jaffer

CKY sometimes gets smack-talked because their drummer is Bam Margera's brother. And, honestly, their back catalogue ain't that special. That said, Carver City is going to change perceptions of the West Chester, PA band. Why? It's heavy, but not strictly metal, and definitely not skater/stoner metal. Margera's drumming isn't metal drumming. The Moog-y moments and weirdo bits "Plagued by Images" bend it away from convention. Its songs, like "Imaginary Threats", have an arena-rock, uncomplicated, accessible feel that bend it back t'other way. Truth told, I'm not sure I was ready for Carver City to be this interesting.

Killswitch Engage and Devildriver: Track-by-track!

Killswitch Engage and Devildriver: Track-by-track!

Metal Hammer posted an interesting article about the new Killswitch Engage and Devildriver album. Check out some of “the track-by-track” previews below…

Killswitch Enagage:

Starting Over

Killswitch here sound like a cross between Iron Maiden and Atreyu with a galloping almost party vibe. Howard’s voice rips up the growl over the fast-paced backing track, before the signature chorus/clean vocal hits. A stripped bass/drum break hit the mix before the tempo and layers build again. Howard’s voice is always faultless, but the pleading heartfelt energy of his clean vocals seem somehow lessened than earlier outings. The track still signals a certain forward-thinking approach to song structure, rhythm and pace – and it works.

Light In A Darkened World

After the mid-tempo “The Return” comes another banger, again, moving quickly to a soaring chorus. This is more straight-forward KSE territory, but the song is good and some nice guitar-work make it an anthemic juggernaught.

To read them all go at:
http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/killswitch-engage-review-track-by-track/

Devildriver:

Back With A Vengeance

Opening with a huge wah-lead lead guitar line, this is arguably the track where DevilDriver truly nail groove-metal like never before. “Back With A Vengeance” might even be destined to be DevilDriver’s “Redneck”. The chorus is absolutely huge and recalls vintage White Zombie, the solo rips and this is one is destined to become huge in the clubs.

Waiting For November

Slamming drums over the top of a swirling, crushing riff. One of the most relentless tracks on the record, double-bass drums thud like a motherfucker all of the way through the track and there’s a mammoth beat-down at the track’s climax; the kind yo’ momma warned you about.

Slipknot: New video interview with Shawn Crahan!

Slipknot: New video interview with Shawn Crahan!

WatchMojo.com recently conducted an interview with Slipknot percussionist Shawn "The Clown" Crahan. Watch the four-minute chat below.

Crahan rejoined Slipknot on stage on May 8 at Oklahoma City's Zoo Amphitheatre after taking several days off following the death of his mother.

Speaking to Kerrang! magazine last June, Crahan revealed that he lost his father in 2005 following the release of 2004's "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" and during the recording process for last year's "All Hope Is Gone", his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, an incurable, degenerative form of dementia.

"It was the best recording cycle of my career on one hand, and on the other it was absolutely the worst," he said. "My mom has Alzheimer's. I pray for her to pass so she's not in this constant delirium. There's really no quality of life there. I'm my mom's guardian and it's very confusing for her and it's very, very hard."

Cradle of Filth: Dani Fitlh walks off stage in Adelaide!

According to a posting on the Metal As Fuck web site, vocalist Dani Filth of British extreme metallers Cradle of Filth abruptly exited the stage halfway through the song "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids" when the band played in Adelaide, Australia on Sunday, May 24, leaving the rest of the group to play on without him.

Filth's unexpected, and sudden departure terminated the show early — less than an hour after the concert began. The gig ended without a word said — and no comment from anyone.

Dommin new interview!

Dommin new interview!

New interview with Kris Dommin of the band Dommin at PureGrainAudio.

Here’s a part…

PureGrainAudio: How do you guys stand out with your live set?

Kris: I think you know, at this point what I’ve noticed for us what stands out is the style of music that we’re playing. I don’t know a lot of people doing it. And usually when we play shows we’re playing with all kinds of bands, people really seem to gravitate towards the fact that we’re doing like this kinda rock ‘n’ roll style, not necessarily metal at all. It’s just rock ‘n’ roll but, you know, it’s got some real kind of hippie overtones with the keyboards and vocals and stuff. The sound is what makes it stick out.

Black Stone Cherry: “Things my father said” video!

Black Stone Cherry: “Things my father said” video!

You can now watch Black Stone Cherry's poignant video for "Things My Father Said."

Here is a message from the guys of Black Stone Cherry to their fans:

"Hello everyone! We are so extremely pleased to bring you all this video for "Things My Father Said"! Like we've said before, this is not just another run of the mill music video for us. This is a true example of how much family and friends means to not only us band guys, but to everyone around the world. When it came time to make this video, we told the director (Andrew Bennett) that this song was very important to us and we wanted NO outside influence or Hollywood theatrics. We wanted raw emotion and feeling…we wanted normal. He was very understanding and respected our wishes, and as you will see did a terrific job making it everything it needed to be. But while any director or band would love to take credit for this video, it was YOU that made it magical! Our deep thanks and utmost respect goes out to our family, friends, and fans who showed and submitted their photos for this video. The song speaks for itself, but coupled with the faces of real people showing their appreciation and honor for their lost loved ones is something truly out of this world and heartwarming. We will probably never make a more real and emotionally powerful video as this and we're okay with that. We've done it this time and once is all we could ask for. So without further rambling, we again thank each and every person that had a helping hand in making this video possible as it means so much to us. We hope this song and video will enter the hearts of people all over the world and help them in any way possible. After all, that's what we wrote it for! Spread this song to others and send it to everyone you know. We hope it will make people stop and think and take time to appreciate those living around us, and those who have passed away.”

Much love and respect...

BLACK STONE CHERRY

Dave Mustaine: The album is done!

Dave Mustaine has issued the following studio update at TheLIVELine.com:

"I'm at the studio right now, Vic's Garage, and we are done! We're just right now finishing the last couple of notes on the new record, and Andy's getting ready to pack his bags and head up to Los Angeles tomorrow to get ready to fly back home on Thursday. Man, this has been a long, grueling, enduring process but it's been so worth it, and I'm so excited. I'm more excited about this record then I've been in any record since back in the 1980's. I would say, probably since, well definitely since "Rust In Peace" there's nothing that's excited me this much - maybe "Countdown", but this is just absolutely insane."

Blabbermouth exclusive: Machine Head /Metallica!

Blabbermouth.net posted an exclusive interview with Machine Head's Robb Flynn on performing the band's songs with Metallica's James Hetfield. The question-and-answer session with Flynn was conducted via e-mail. The article is accompanied by numerous photos and live videos.

Here’s a little taste of the interview:

Blabbermouth: You have spoken a number of times about how much of an influence and inspiration Metallica has been for you personally and as a band over the years. How did it feel having one of your musical idols performing one of your songs with you?

Flynn: It was amazing! I mean, seriously amazing! There was actually a point during the second show when we were rocking out together, and I just reached over and grabbed him by the shoulders and yelled, "This is amazing!!!!" He cracked up!! It was one of the highlights of my/our musical lives. Is there a higher compliment? A friend of mine e-mailed me the next day after watching the clip on Blabbermouth, and was like, "DUDE, training is over, you are now a full-blown JEDI KNIGHT OF METAL!!!" I laughed my ass off!

Slipknot: Clown produces Dirtfedd debut!

Slipknot: Clown produces Dirtfedd debut!

E1 Music (formerly Koch Records) has set a June 2 release date for the debut album from the Lincoln, Nebraska heavy metal band Dirtfedd, entitled "The American Nightmare". The CD was produced by Slipknot percussionist M. Shawn Crahan (Clown), who describes Dirtfedd's music as "right here right now". He adds, "They are from the Midwest, which gives them a big advantage in how to shape their own vision, rather than get caught up in clichéd scenes… I personally cannot wait until we give this art to the world. It's time things change”.

"The American Nightmare" includes the tracks "Body Bag", "No One Gets Left Behind" and the live show favorite and radio single "Salute". Revolver magazine says "the group alternates between galloping metalcore and groovy shake-your-fanny rawk, but what really sets the band apart is their tasteful use of melody".

Dirtfedd just began a U.S. tour with metal juggernauts Slipknot and Korn in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 8 and will stay on the road throughout the summer.

Killswitch Engage: Pro-Shot footage of new song available!

Professionally filmed video footage of Massachusetts metallers Killswitch Engage performing a brand new song, "Light in a Darkened World", at the first annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which was held on Tuesday, April 7 in Los Angeles, can be viewed below. The song, sandwiched between "My Curse" and the band's uniquely Killswitch'ed cover of Dio's classic anthem "Holy Diver", generated plenty of excitement among the crowd and set the tone for the show. The awards and Killswitch Engage's performance was broadcast on MTV2 on May 2.

"Light in a Darkened World" will be included on the band's eagerly anticipated fourth album, entitled simply "Killswitch Engage", which is scheduled for release on June 30 via Roadrunner Records. The CD was produced by Brendan O'Brien (AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine) and co-produced by guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. Other song titles set to appear on the album include "Reckoning", "The Forgotten" and "Starting Over".

Commented vocalist Howard Jones: "It was time for us to step outside of our comfort zone and try something a little different with this record. It definitely still sounds like us, but we needed to be refreshed and take things a little further."

Regarding the fact that Killswitch Engage's new album is the second self-titled effort of the band's career, Jones said, "When we all couldn’t agree on an album title, someone suggested we just keep it self-titled and we all pretty much agreed…gives it the feeling of a fresh new beginning."

Here’s the footage:
